Peavey JSX

Founded by Hartley Peavey in 1965, Peavey Electronics Corporation is specialized in audio equipment. This american corporation produced mainly guitar amps, including the Van Halen’s 5150 and the Transtube which have made it famous. After years of research, Joe Satriani went to Peavey to realise his own signature series of guitar amplifiers. Named the JSX series, Peavey and Joe Satriani produced the JSX Head 120W also available in combo version, two JSX 412 cabinets (straight or slant) and the small JSX Mini Colossal designed for internal spaces. An other 50W head, the JSX 50, has been designed, but Peavey never released it.
This high quality equipment, associated to the Ibanez JS, provides wide flexibility, and achieves unique audio sensations and an incredible richness of timbre, in part due to the JSX speakers.

The Peavey JSX Head signature Joe Satriani offers a lot ouf sound possibilities to play Joe’s entire musical repertoire. This 3 channels 120W amp knows how to produce a great clean sound for ballads, arpeggios, two handed tapping, and also heavy rock/hard riffs or just groovy with his well-calibrated Overdrive. This amps delivers sounds from the vintge amp to the Classic 50, going through the Triple XXX sonorities. The perfect professional gear to reach the magic of Joe Satriani sound!
The JSX amp has a high gain and low gain input, and his 3 channels are even more versatile with their Fat switch that changes the timbe of the Crunch and Ultra. 4 EL34 are supplied in order to have the possiblity to change the 6L6GC installed in the power amp, and a 3-button footswitch is also included.

Joe Satriani and Peavey have released a combo version of the JSX head, with the sames speakers that feature in the cabinet Peavey 412 cab, the JSX custom 12″. The JSX 212 combo take the most of the features from the JSX head but they added interesting features like the Half-power switch and the Ground polarity switch.

After the 120W head and combo amps, Peavey and Joe Satriani released the JSX Mini Colossal, a high quality 5W amp that is perfect for a small room use, and that’s an interesting advantage compared to the massive 120W amps! The Mini Colossal is a pure valve amp with a 12AX7 in preamp and a EL84 in power amp. An XLR Output is included for the recording sessions, and gives the possibility to plug the preamp in a mixer, a computer or any audio interface. A FX loop has been installed and, it’s not very common, a tremolo.

The JSX 412 cab is a heavy duty loudspeaker cabinet designed to perfectly match the powerful JSX head. It is available in both straight and slant cabinets and loaded with four rearmounted, custom-designed 12″ JSX speakers. The JSX 412 can accomodate any playing style, and emphasizes the low end while allowing chiming minds and highs to cut though for tight, rhythmic playing and thick chords.

A JSX 212 cab was also planned to match the JSX 50 head, but has never been released.

Joe Satriani had many ideas for the JSX 50, but only one goal: “To create the most versatile 50-watt amp ever”. he says. “The classic 50-watters gave you power but one sound. Then you got newer amps with incredible tones, but no juice. I see no reason why you have to sacrifice anything, and we’ve just proved it.”
This amp has never been released but has been featuring on the Peavey stand at the winter NAMM 2009. Like the first JSX 120W head and the JSX Mini Colossal, this 2 channels JSX 50 amp is very versatile, and would have been a benchmark in the universe of the 50W heads.

The Peavey JSX 50 is an all-tube amplifier head like all the JSX series. Each channel has a pre-gain knob, treble, midrange, bass and a master volume. The Crunch channel adds a pre-gain boost switch and a 6-way attack’ control. The master section includes a presence control, a master volume, a master volume boost switch its volume boost knob, a lot more controls than the JSX 120W head had before. The JSX 50 has a channel switch on the front of the amp and a high gain and low gain input. On the back of the amp is the same active effects loop as the JSX amp, an impedance selector, & 2 speaker outputs. Also on the back are the bias test area and a MSDI feature from the JSX 412 cabinet. A 4-button footswitch is included, featuring a channel switch, a boost switch for channel 2, an effects loop on/off switch and a switch for the global boost.
