Album Review

As a continuation of Super Colossal, Joe Satriani released in 2008 Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock. The style is more purified that on the previous record, almost minimalist.
The CD starts with a riff that reminds « Not Of This Earth » on « Musterion » start laying the foundations for the following songs, alternate between strange chords with twisted melodies like of « Ghost » or « Overdriver » and easy melodies that may sometimes sound like pop music, I think of « Revelation » and his very catchy chorus and « Out Of The Sunrise » the calm and peaceful song of the album and « Come On Baby » his sadder counterpart.
There’re  also very rock songs like oubviously « I Just Wanna Rock » and his incredible solo and « Diddle-Y-A-Doo-Dat » that is most jazzy and groovy. The name of this song is an onomatopoeia describing his main intro and outro riff, as a scat. We also have two ethnic songs « Asil Vaysel » and « Andalusia », a region of Spain.
Joe succeeded to make Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock consistent in his artistic choices, the production and the precise dosage of overdubs.
